A considered approach

Improve the growing foundation before replacing plants

Much of Perth sits on deep sandy soil that can drain rapidly and hold limited moisture and nutrients. Some areas also become difficult to wet evenly after drying. This means a plant may receive frequent watering but still have an inconsistent root-zone environment. Simply adding fertiliser or installing new plants may provide only a temporary improvement if the underlying soil and water movement are ignored.

A site-specific approach can consider well-composted organic matter, suitable soil improvers, wetting products, mulch and irrigation delivery. The right combination depends on whether the area is lawn, an established bed, a new planting zone or a container garden. Existing roots, drainage, product instructions and the intended plants also matter; adding more of a product is not automatically better.

Soil improvement is usually most efficient before major planting, but established beds can often be improved carefully over time. The goal is a more reliable growing environment—not to turn Perth sand into heavy soil or promise that watering and maintenance will no longer be needed.

What helps create an accurate quote?

Include the suburb, approximate size of the area, access limitations, current problems, features you hope to retain and the result you want. Photographs can help explain the starting point, but a site visit may still be required before materials, quantities, plant choices or specialist work can be confirmed.
